Hearts and minds awaited with love and devotion as the minutes passed. At six o’clock Abu Dhabi time, they were ready to listen to the speech of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), who spoke from the heart to the citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates.
The words of his royal Highness were specific and outlined the nation’s approach and its ambitions for the coming decades. He called for solidarity and cooperation to shape a future that honours what the nation’s forefathers had founded, structured, and empowered.
Through its insightful words, the speech painted a future where ambitions become reality, achievements multiply, and the Union is built – the foundations of which were established by the late H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father (may God have mercy upon him) and developed and improved by the late H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed (may God have mercy upon him). The Union has grown even prouder under His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed (may God protect him), and is now reaching for the sky with clear ambitions for the future, while establishing its foundations, work methods, and opening its doors for anyone who loves this country and is willing to work and excel, each in his own field, to achieve this unique vision.
Today’s speech called on the minds and hearts of the citizens of the UAE to participate – with awareness, love and pride – in supporting the comprehensive development journey, the ultimate goal of which is “the happiness and wellbeing of citizens” as the speech clearly and surely stated.
The speech emphasized the clear and central role of citizens as partners and objectives. According to the President, “We hold boundless pride in the Emirati citizen”. Each one of us took this message to be a personal medal of honour, a noble message from a noble leader. This message is inclusive of all those who contributed to success, hope and work. With citizens as the centre and objective of development, the UAE welcomes the participation of all those living on its land, of different nationalities, cultures and religions, from all across the world. It is proud of their continuous contributions in building and developing the nation since the Union was created.
With resounding positivity, the speech confirmed the need for complementarity between the private and public sectors. It emphasized the role of the private sector and the need to activate it and increase its contributions to economic growth. His Highness was hopeful for a prosperous future based on economic diversification, calling it a strategic and vital need to improve the country’s economic competitiveness and continue to rank highly in relevant global indicators. He spoke of a package of development priorities, and stressed the importance of science and technology and the need to “develop our capabilities to ensure a bright future for the present and future generations.”
When speaking of the UAE global relations, His Highness referred to an essential Emirati principle by saying, “We will continue to offer a helping hand to all societies.” Peace is part of Emirati identity, and the UAE has been a leader in promoting peace and will continue to promote peace for all. “The UAE will continue its policy of continuing to support peace and stability in the region and the wider world, supporting others and advocating for wisdom and cooperation for the good of mankind. The UAE will continue its work to strengthen cooperation and enable positive, respectful dialogue between countries to achieve stability and prosperity for all.”
The speech outlined a roadmap for the future, starting with peace and moving on to comprehensive development, collaboration and partnership in building, tolerance, generosity, hard work, and science and technology. With these key elements, the UAE has succeeded in becoming a pioneer and an example for the world – government, people and leaders – to follow.
